TRUST & DATA

Privacy & Your Choices

Know the Hold collects only what it needs to operate and research hotel policies. Our traffic measurement is first-party, cookieless, and deliberately limited; advertising storage remains disabled.

What we collect

Hotel reports may include the property, deposit amount, payment method, stay date, and notes you choose to provide. Contact messages may include a name or email if you voluntarily enter them.

For site measurement, we record one page-view event per navigation and selected product interactions such as searches, hotel opens, reports, and outbound booking clicks. An event may include the relative page path, the referring website's hostname, and campaign tags supplied in the link.

We do not store an IP address, user agent, full referring URL, precise location, browser fingerprint, or durable visitor identifier in analytics. A random visit token exists only in memory while the page is open; it is not written to cookies, local storage, or session storage. Known crawlers and duplicate delivery attempts are rejected before storage.

Our hosting provider may separately process ordinary technical information needed to deliver and secure the site, such as request logs and device or browser information.

How we use it

We use submitted information to research hotel policies, review corrections, respond to messages, prevent abuse, and improve Know the Hold. We do not currently require general visitor accounts.

What we do not do

We do not intentionally sell personal information. We do not publish a reporter’s name or email with a hotel report. Avoid placing reservation numbers, payment-card details, government identifiers, medical information, or other sensitive personal data in a submission.

Retention and deletion

We retain policy evidence long enough to maintain an accurate history and audit changes. Contact and privacy-request records are retained only as long as reasonably needed for the request, safety, fraud prevention, or legal obligations.

Analytics events collected before the August 28, 2026 measurement repair are preserved for auditability but excluded from current traffic totals because crawler and duplicate contamination makes that period unreliable.

Maryland privacy rights

Depending on applicable law, including the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act, you may request access, correction, deletion, portability, or an appeal of a decision about your request.

Use the request form below for rights requests or appeals.

Affiliate separation

Affiliate referrals are operationally separate from hotel-policy evidence. Affiliate relationships do not change deposit, source, confidence, or ranking information.
